Wrack 21 pays tribute to the members of the NY 21 and Liberation Movement. The narrator practices
his pool game as he navigates the story of the case that stunned Americans and cost New York City
millions of dollars to construct.

The conspiracy case, now known as the New York 21, involved 21
rank-in-file members of the NY Chapter of the Black Panther Party, being arrested in a series of raids
pursuant to a twelve-count indictment in April, 1969, for crimes they did not commit. The bail was set
to $100,000.00 each. Within 7 months, the state of New York compounded the original indictment to
include 30 counts against all twenty-one defendants. This case is the longest trial in the history of
New York. After 24 months of trumped trial antics, the jury in the NY 21 Conspiracy case returned
after ninety minutes of deliberation and acquitted all defendants on all 156 collective counts. After
their release, many of the activists were forced underground by the acts of law enforcement agencies
and its program designed to wrack the members of the Party.
Wrack 21 is a short tributary feature, which pays homage to the cadre and introduces the Liberation
Movement. The living members of the NY 21, along with representatives of the fallen and/or
imprisoned cadre come to share their story of April 2, 1969. The representatives will read in
character, excerpts from the book, Look For Me In The Whirlwind, written by the members
themselves. Former members and experts of the Liberation Movement explore the boundaries of the
movement. |
